A Ponce de Leon Avenue cell phone store was targeted by smash-and-grab burglars early Tuesday.

A rock was thrown through the glass front door of the Verizon Wireless store across Ponce from the old City Hall East building about 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones.

Jones told the AJC that the thieves took two Apple iPads, two HP netbook computers and four “smart” phones.

An employee arriving for work at the nearby Whole Foods witnessed three males running from the stairwell leading to the Verizon store and getting into a red, late model Ford or Toyota sedan, Jones said.

The same Verizon store has been targeted by smash-and-grab burglars in the past, on May 29, 2009.
