A suspect who was shot by a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy has died, Channel 2 confirmed.

The shooting happened Friday afternoon near Thornton Road between a QT and a Zaxby’s restaurant, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller confirmed.

Miller said the deputy was responding to a report of a stabbing near the restaurant when he encountered the suspect. When the deputy asked the suspect to put down the knife, the man refused and moved toward the deputy, investigators said.

The deputy fired once and the suspect later died, Channel 2 confirmed.

The stabbing victim was also later pronounced dead, officials said.
