ATLANTA — A convenience store clerk was shot and killed during a morning robbery in southeast Atlanta, police said.
Police surrounded the Glenwood Food Mart on Glenwood Avenue talking to at least two witnesses, Channel 2’s Darryn Moore reported.
A robber walked into the store just after 3 a.m. and pulled a gun, police said. The robber then shot the clerk in the stomach, took the drawer from the cash register and ran, according to authorities.
Officers told Moore they found money scattered on the floor of the business along with shell casings.
“At some point during the robbery attempt we believe the suspect discharged his weapon at least four to five times,” said Atlanta police Lt. Keith Meadows.
Paramedics took the clerk to the hospital, but authorities said he later died at the hospital. He had not been identified.
Detectives told Moore that surveillance cameras inside the store may have captured the entire robbery on tape.
