Residents of a mobile home park in Bibb County said they want to know how water from a nearby pond unexpectedly gushed into their neighborhood.

A local news station reported that North Park Manor off Highway 247 was evacuated Wednesday when water swamped the area. Many residents were still without power and clean water on Thursday.

Resident Gene Yates said the water level in the park was knee- to waist-high.

Property manager Tina Upshaw said nearly all of the 44 trailers in the park took were affected, though the full extent of damage isn’t yet known.

County chairman Sam Hart said the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority had hired a private contractor to drain the pond. He said engineers are doing an assessment to find out who could be at fault.
