Police found a woman stabbed to death and a man with stab wounds at an Avondale Estates home Friday morning.
The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
Police believe the man stabbed the woman to death, then tried to kill himself.
“It appears at this time to be domestic-related,” Avondale Estates Police Sgt. Lynn Thomas said.
Both were described as “60ish.”
Police got the call about 5 a.m. The GBI is assisting in the investigation.
This is Avondale Estates’ first homicide of 2010, according to Thomas.
Thomas said a daughter and granddaughter of the couple were home sleeping at the time of the stabbings.
“They were not involved in the altercation,” Thomas said.
Neighbor Linda Dunning was stunned to find out what had happened.
“We don’t have violence in this neighborhood,” she said. “But you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. It’s so sad, it’s tragic.”
