ATHENS, Ga. — Authorities say they have arrested a man accused of using a toilet seat lid to beat a man to death and then kidnapping and raping a woman who witnessed the attack.
William Thomas Valentine Jr., 40, was arrested Monday afternoon at his brother’s home in Oglethorpe County. Police say he is charged in the Sunday murder of 51-year-old Alfred Lorenzo Harris.
Police say Valentine also is accused of kidnapping a woman who lived with Harris and taking her to Madison County, where authorities say he raped her.
Authorities say Valentine has a long prison history: he’s served five stints in state prison — once for aggravated assault.
