Police released three pictures of a man they called a person of interest in the shooting death of a southwest Atlanta pastor.

Derek Moses was found shot to death on March 28 inside his financial planning office on Cascade Road.

On Monday, police released surveillance photos taken from a store on Sylvan Road showing the person of interest. The man appeared to be purchasing items from a convenience store. Detectives declined to say why they were looking for the man in the pictures.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News on Thursday the their main theory is that Moses was killed in order to steal his car, which was found on Montreat Avenue, nearly two miles away from his office.

Moses’ son, Matthew Moses, told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne he would not accept that the car theft was the primary reason his father was killed. “I mean, that would be ridiculous; it would be senseless,” Matthew Moses told Winne.

Moses worked as an account and financial planner, and served as associate pastor at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.

Police asked anybody who may have seen the man in the store surveillance pictures or Derek Moses’ stolen 2002 navy blue BMW 530i with a golf tag between the afternoons of March 26 and March 28 to please call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.
