COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A platinum-selling R&B star who sings about making good choices admitted in a Cobb County courtroom that he made a mistake.

Singer Lyfe Jennings was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison on Wednesday.

A judge sentenced him for his role in a 2008 fight with the mother of his two children. The fight led to shots being fired and a high-speed chase.

“I mean, it did happen and I’m taking full responsibility for it, period. I just wanted an opportunity to come here and apologize to the court,” said Jennings.

Jennings’ lawyers asked if he could spend some time with his children before going to prison, but the judge ordered him to start his sentence Wednesday.

In 1992, Jennings served 10 years in prison in Ohio for a deadly arson. During his time in prison, Jennings developed his music career and has since released several albums with inspirational messages.
