GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An overturned tractor-trailer shut down part of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County for more than five hours Sunday.A hazmat team with the Gwinnett County Fire Department was called to the scene because officials said there was a 55-gallon drum of flammable material on the tandem hauler truck. It is believed to be Ethyl Acetate and is highly flammable with a low ignition limit, officials said.
When Channel 2’s Rebecca Lindstrom arrived at the scene, she found one of the trailers had jackknifed and rolled over the guardrail. There was so much damage to the doors that hazmat crews could not get in to check for leaks until it was pulled out of the embankment and placed upright.
Part of Interstate 85 southbound was shut down between Highway 211 and Hamilton Mill Road.
Investigators told Lindstrom no other vehicles were involved in the accident, and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Police have not said when they hope to reopen I-85.
