Neighbors told Channel 2’s Erica Byfield that someone started shooting at another person’s house in the 1300 block of Greenland Drive. Nick Garey said his father’s home was targeted.

“I was pretty confident something like this would happen,” Garey told Byfield.

Garey said the shooting was sparked by a suit he filed against another man in the area, Michael Christopher Lloyd. Garey said he took Lloyd to court for slander earlier this year. He said he won the case, and has a restraining order against Lloyd.

“We went through the proper channels, and we thought everything was handled, and this is what happened,” said Garey.

Police said they initially received reports that an explosive device was thrown into Garey’s father’s home, but the department’s bomb squad did not find explosives. Police said the rear of the house was shot multiple times with a high-powered rifle.

Morningside Elementary and Springdale Elementary schools were locked down for about an hour as police searched the area for a man in a camouflage outfit.

Hours later, and a short distance away, police said they found Lloyd, a person of interest, inside a vehicle. He was charged with aggravated assault.

“He needs to be punished for what he did,” Garey said.
