ATLANTA — An Atlanta woman who had just cashed her tax refund check says she was attacked in a Walmart parking lot as her 4-year-old daughter watched.

Police confirmed it happened at the retailer’s Howell Mill Road location.

“I was screaming and yelling, hitting my horn saying, ‘Please help me … please help me,'” the woman, said. She asked Channel 2’s Erica Byfield not to identify her for safety reasons.

The woman said she went to Walmart to cash her tax return check. She told Channel 2 that she had a strange feeling while walking to her car about a man a few feet behind her.

She said, “When I shut my door, I got ready to hit my lock. He just opened up my door starting to fight me.”

She said the attacked happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.

“He threatened to kill me and kill my daughter and was asking for my purse,” she said.

The victim then said she realized it was a fight for her life. She said the man fled as an Atlanta police officer approached. A Police Department spokesperson said the officer tackled the man. He was later identified as John Wilson.

The mother said the experience left her daughter with reoccurring nightmares and her with an uneasy feeling about shopping at night.

“I’m scared and I’m not comfortable at all,” she said.

A Sheriff’s Office representative said Wilson was released on an $18,000 bond.
