The husband of a missing Winder woman has been charged with murder.

Channel 2 Action News learned James Lynn was officially charged with murder Saturday morning, after the Georgia Crime Lab confirmed a body found in a well Friday was that of James Lynn’s wife, Tonya.

Channel 2 Action News was the only station there as police took James Lynn, 42, to jail.

Channel 2’s Manuel Bojorquez asked Lynn, “Did you kill your wife? Can you tell us what happened to your wife?”

Lynn did not respond to Bojorquez’s questions.

Police questioned James Lynn all day. Winder police officer Chris Cooper told Bojorquez, “Over time he just continually revealed more and more information to us that led to a body.”

Tonya Faye Lynn, 38, was reported missing at about noon Wednesday.

The mother of four worked at Athens Regional Medical Center, but did not report to work on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said someone sent a text message from Lynn’s cellphone to her niece asking that she take care of the woman’s children. When the niece tried to call back, the phone was turned off, police said.

Investigators said they found Tonya Lynn’s body in a well at about 4 p.m. Friday just off Etheridge Road in Auburn, Ga., an area just a few miles from Winder.

“It’s not the outcome we had hoped for. Our thoughts are with Ms. Lynn’s family,” Cooper said.

James Lynn is currently being held in the Barrow County Jail on charges of obstruction and murder.

A first appearance will be scheduled for Lynn at some point over the weekend.

A fund has been set up to help the Lynns’ four children.

Contributions can be made at any Community and Southern Bank.
