An Atlanta man found guilty Thursday of killing his neighbor in a noise dispute was sentenced to life plus 45 years in prison, authorities said.
Rodney Lane, 44, was convicted of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Authorities said Lane fatally shot 55-year-old Donald Dye in the chest on Oct. 8, 2010 outside an apartment on Rawson Street in Atlanta. The investigation determined that Lane complained to police earlier that night about excessive noise in the apartment community and went outside to tell his neighbors to be quiet so his family could sleep. When the noise level did not decrease, Lane opened fire with a shotgun from the balcony of his apartment unit, authorities said.
Lane was arrested at the scene for drug possession with intent to distribute and later was charged with killing Dye.
