The discovery of a dead man shut down a northwest Atlanta intersection Friday morning, Atlanta police said.

The intersection of Donald Lee Howell Parkway and Cedar Avenue was blocked while police investigated. Homicide investigators told Channel 2’s Amanda Cook the victim was shot to death in the early-morning hours.

Someone driving in the area heard gunshots and called 911, police said. When officers arrived, the victim was lying in the middle of Cedar Avenue, police said. They said there were multiple shell casings on the ground.

Police said the man appeared to be in his 30s, but they didn’t know anything else about him. They said they were having trouble finding witnesses.

“At this point, we have yet to locate anyone who witnessed the actual shooting, so we’re still puzzled as to what occurred,” Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said. “But it is still early in the investigation.”
