An inmate who walked away from a work detail Friday in south Fulton County has been captured.
Rodney Askew, 47, of Atlanta, was one of five inmates supervised by a deputy when he escaped around 2 p.m., according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s office.
Askew was captured near Adair and Olive streets in southeast Atlanta around 7:17 p.m. Sunday, said Tracy Flanagan, spokeswoman for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators spotted Askew driving a stolen vehicle and pursued him, Flanagan said. When he realized he was being followed, Askew bailed from the vehicle and fled, Flanagan said. Deputies caught him after a chase through a wooded area, she said.

He was being held on charges including burglary; possession of tools to commit crime; entering an auto; theft by taking; identification fraud; and criminal damage in the second degree when he walked off the work detail.
