GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday night near Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Singleton Road.
Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said the shooting happened around 9 p.m. at an apartment complex.
Smith told Channel 2’s Eric Philips that three officers who belonged to the department’s gang unit were patrolling the area and noticed a group of individuals.
When police approached one man and asked for his ID and other information, they said the man pointed a gun at the officer and the officer opened fire.
The officer was not injured. The man was shot once and was said to be in critical condition at last check on Wednesday night.
The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
