Atlanta – GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police were looking for a driver who struck and killed a Gwinnett County high school student near the Gwinnett Place Mall on Tuesday.
Agustin Cortes, 17, of Lawrenceville, was a student at Berkmar High School in Lilburn.The incident happened on Pleasant Hill Road near Gwinnett Place Drive. Witnesses told police that a tan or brown car struck the young man and kept driving west toward Duluth.
The victim was not in a crosswalk at the time, according to police. A witness told police that they saw a partial tag of 555 on the car that hit the teen.
The victim was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died.Police said the teen was carrying a white skateboard and an iPod when the incident happened.
Police told Channel 2 Action News that they need people to come forward with information on the car that left the scene.Witnesses were encouraged to call the Accident Investigation Unit tip line at 770-338-7430, ext. 5670.
