ATLANTA, Ga. — Former Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin has been injured in a serious car accident.
Irvins daughter told Channel 2s Richard Elliot Irvin is expected to recover after the accident in Toccoa last Thursday.
Irvins daughter said she did not have the details of the accident.
She said her father suffered several broken ribs in the crash and said he remains in the Intensive Care Unit at a Habersham County hospital.
She said he is alert and doing well and could go home any day.
Irvin served as agriculture commissioner from 1969 until his retirement in January 2011, making him the longest serving commissioner in Georgia history.
