ATLANTA — Emergency crews were called out to Benjamin E. Mays High School Saturday afternoon for a construction worker who fell 20 feet and died.
Atlanta police told Channel 2s Tony Thomas the worker was about twenty feet in the air working out of a bucket lift when metal piping fell from above and struck his bucket, knocking him head first onto the concrete below.
He died at the scene, according to police.
Thomas spoke by phone with the president of Winter Construction, the general contractor working on the job.
Brent Reid said the man worked for Shumate Heating and Air, a subcontractor on the job.
He said his company is investigating what happened and sends it’s condolences to the workers family.
Fellow workers told Thomas they were too shaken to speak to him.
