Now family members are asking how this happened.
Police arrived at the Wellington apartments to find a 4-year-old boy who’d fallen into an empty pool on the property.
“My wife and my daughter, they were looking for my son all around the area. They don’t find him. They don’t find. And they call him. He don’t give answer and my daughter said, let’s go see over by the pool. Shamin Ahmed, the boys father, said.
Amhed said the boy’s mother found him unresponsive in a pool.
Medics rushed him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish.
Family members said the boy was able to get to the pool through an open gate.
“My concern is, I am very upset about why they leave open. Because this is not a kid’s pool. It is a very deep, deep, you know,” Ahmed said.
Property management said the circumstances leading up to the accident are still under investigation.
Neighbors said the pool is usually closed.
“It was just really sad how it had to happen today. Just in a regular morning he went outside to play and this is what happened,” neighbor Yasira Vargas said.
