On July 17, 2023, a Delta flight departing from Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport was stuck on the tarmac for four hours without air conditioning.

Having just reached record breaking temperatures in three digits, Las Vegas inhabitants are already at risk to heat related injury. The Delta flight was stuck on the tarmac for at least four hours. One passenger reported that the external temperature reached 111 degrees Fahrenheit, and expected the temperature within the cabin to be even higher.

Soon, many passengers and flight crew members were found to be feeling sick. Some passengers passed out and were carried out on stretchers, according to ABC News. Fox News field producer Krista Garvin says she witnessed multiple passengers pass out and saw at least five people wheeled off the plane in stretchers. This plane, which was scheduled to depart to Atlanta, was consequently cancelled.

The flight that was rescheduled for Tuesday, July 18, was also cancelled. In addition to the heat-related illnesses, Delta passengers in Las Vegas called this experience “traumatizing” and worried that they wouldn’t get back to Atlanta.

The flight was Delta flight DL555 scheduled to depart Harry Reid Las Vegas International Airport (LAS) at 1:47 PM PDT on Monday, July 17 in 2023.
