DECATUR, Ga. — A man is recovering after getting part of his leg trapped when a concrete walkway outside his apartment collapsed.
Kareem Redd was walking outside his door at the Crystal Point Apartments in Decatur when neighbors heard him yell.
“He fell, boom. I could see him tumbling down as I came out the door,” his roommate Cory Broome told Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri.
Neighbor Joshua Wright took cell phone video of Redd’s foot pinned inside the hole by the slab of concrete that fell. Neighbors called police and emergency crews helped free Redd’s leg from the hole and took him to the hospital.
Broome said he told the apartment complex management about the walkway, which is cracked and he believes a hazard.
“We’ve been asking the apartments to do something about this, the railing, the floors. Because we have kids and this is a dangerous zone,” Broome said.
Wright said he would like management to completely replace the walkway with a new one for safety reasons. Calls and an email to the management office were not returned Sunday night.
