48 People Displaced In College Park Apartment Fire
As of Monday night, College Park officials had not identified a cause.
“I can’t describe it, it’s indescribable,” said Celopha Polen, who lives in the complex.
Channel 2 was there as flames shot through the roof, doors and window frames. At the height of the blaze, there were five different fire departments at the scene: College Park, Fulton County, Atlanta, Clayton County and East Point.
By 10 p.m., the fire had destroyed a total of 28 units, leaving renters like Odell Jarvis in tears.
“I just lost everything. I have nothing left except for the clothes that are on my back,” said Jarvis.
The loss is especially difficult for him because he moved to Clayton County after losing everything during Hurricane Katrina.
“I dont know where I’m going or what I’m going to do. I just cant take this no more,” said Jarvis.
The fire sparked a small brush fire behind the apartment buildings, but firefighters were able to quickly put it out.
