Channel 2’s Tony Thomas spoke with officials at the scene, who said three teens were walking along a paved shoulder of Highway 138 when the accident happened. The kids were carrying skateboards.
Officials told Thomas that a car was heading in same direction and veered off the road for an unknown reason.
All three teens were struck by the vehicle, officials said.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were airlifted to an area hospital, where they were last said to be in critical condition. Hours later, a second teen who was transported was pronounced dead.
Police have not officially determined what caused the accident, but a relative of the driver told Thomas that her sister had been suffering panic attacks.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene because it provides the medical examiner services for the county.
Charges are pending against the driver, officials said.
